Property Description
Perfect for spoiling yourself but at a budget price, The Nunnery’s wide range of accommodation styles are spread over two buildings, catering to both dormitory traveller and those wanting the privacy of their own room.
The two Victorian main buildings host small and large dormitories and private rooms, a lounge with comfortable club sofas, fireplace, tv & dvd. All room styles are provided with all bedding, towels, heating, have shared bathroom facilities, laundry facilities and access to a fully equipped kitchen, where a Continental breakfast is included each day with your choice of tea, coffee and hot chocolate all day. A free safety deposit box for passports and important papers and the addition of security carded door entry all makes it all the safer for guests belongings. Other services include phone, fax, internet, message & mail service, free tour & bus bookings, free daily newspaper (the age) and AUD travellers checks, Eftpos and visa/master/bank card accepted.
Homemade soup or ice cream, wine and nibbles nights and bbq’s are just samples of the free goodies provided for you whilst staying at the Nunnery. Advice and booking services for both local and interstate tours are provided, as well as a work placement board for those looking to stay for a while.
The Nunnery is within walking distance to the Melbourne Museum and Exhibition Buildings, the Carlton Gardens, MCG, Rod Laver Arena, the Fitzroy Gardens, CBD, Lygon Street and Brunswick Street just to list a few. Brunswick & Lygon Streets are culinary melting pots with some of the best cafes, restaurants and bars in all of Melbourne (not to mention the coffee!) and is home to the artistic, cultural and alternative communities of Melbourne. Fitzroy is also renown for it’s incredible live music venues that offer everything from Jazz to Rock to Hip Hop.
It is incredible just how at home you feel at the Nunnery with the Nuns (Nunnery Staff) who create a relaxed, friendly vibe. And if you need confessions, Mother Superior or one of the Sisters is always at hand!!

baskeluchtop8687 stayed here on 11th August 2010 The character of the hostel is of 'an upper class' hostel. You feel like more in a hotel than in a hostel. No loud parties but a building full of history and character. NICE! But the price is also like that.
The Hostel is around the corner of Fritzroy, which is one of the best artsy and cultural neighbourhoods of Melbourne! Its about 15 walk from CBD, so still okay.
But one thing was a little bit pity; the staff had a non-intrested of sometimes even rude attitude. Often they seemed to have an 'off day' or |

It would have been nice if they'd at least given me (and the other 8 roommates) a heads up that I'd need some industrial strength ear plugs to ensure a decent nights sleep. They were quite happy to change rooms when I asked the next morning, but I'd recommend they put noisy guests like that into rooms with less/no people. | Female

People are what make your stay pleasant and I sure met quite a few decent travellers there! Situated beside the Melbourne museum, and walking distance to the \'cool\', \'chill\' district of Fitzroy.
